The Angel of the North

It's a giant sculpture of a winged angel standing in a field just north of Durham. I think it's 55 feet tall. It is rather wonderful when you catch sight of it unexpectedly, as I did the first time I saw it, when I had no idea it was visible from the train. And, although I had my camera in my hand for the purpose, it took me bu surprise again this time. I feel it is a very comforting angel, watching over us.

It's not a good photo! I think it's more like a man trying to fly, standing waiting to rise into the air (and he's probably not going to succeed, but his optimism is inspiring).
